Safe Kids Trident Area Offers Car Seat Inspections for Child Passenger Safety Week

Certified technicians help parents correctly use and install car and booster seats

 to celebrate National Child Passenger Safety Week

 

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – Safe Kids Trident Area urges parents and caregivers to make sure their car seats and booster seats are properly installed for a kickoff event for “National Child Passenger Safety Week” on Friday, September 11^th.  Mount Pleasant will have certified child passenger safety technicians available to provide hands-on instruction on installing car and booster seats at Target from 1:00 to 4:30. 
 

“Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent,” said Jennifer Winkelmann, Injury Prevention Coordinator at MUSC Children’s Hospital and Coordinator for Safe Kids Trident Area. “We want all parents to make sure their car seats are used and installed correctly and that the whole family is buckled up every time on every ride. And we’re here to help.”
 

 In a nationwide effort to educate parents and caregivers during Child Passenger Safety Week, Safe Kids Worldwide teams up with the local Safe Kids coalition, MUSC Children’s Hospital and Mount Pleasant Police Department for seat check activities to keep children and families safe in and around cars. Safe Kids will host more than 500 child seat inspections across the country for CPS week, including one at Target in Mount Pleasant, 1300 Long Grove Drive, on Friday, September 11^th from 1:00 to 4:30.
 

 Car seat inspections offer drivers the chance to receive assistance and guidance from certified car seat technicians regarding proper installation of their child safety and booster seats. Safe Kids events continue throughout the year.
 

 Parent can also check their own car and booster seats by using this car seat check list. Certified child passenger safety technicians are available to help or double check your work. Parents and caregivers can locate an event in their community by visiting the Safe Kids website at safekids.org.

Car Seat Inspection Event

Come out September 11, 2015 to Target on Long Grove Dr. to learn how to install your child's car or booster seat. There will be nationally certified technicians on hand to make sure your car seat is properly installed. We have teamed up with Trident Area Safe Kids and the MUSC Children's Hospital to put on this event.

Livesaving Awards

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department presented 5 of our officers with Lifesaving Awards on Friday during a monthly supervisors meeting. We want to congratulate Cpl. Santos, Cpl. Willis, FTO Neese, Pfc. Howard, Pfc. Raley for their performance!

They also presented the police department with 4 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be carried by officers as they patrol Mount Pleasant.

We want to thank the Mount Pleasant Fire Department for their continued support!

Christmas Fundraiser

We want to thank everyone who came out and supported our Christmas fundraiser on Friday. With your help we raised approximately $2,800 to take deserving children shopping in December. This total is more than the 2 combined fundraisers we held last year. See our Flickr album below for pictures:

Mount Pleasant Police Host BBQ Fundraiser

The Mount Pleasant Police Department will be hosting a BBQ cookout to raise money to help children who may never experience the joy of Christmas. 

By selling BBQ chicken and pulled pork baskets, the Mount Pleasant Police Department is trying to raise enough money to send 10 children on a Christmas shopping spree. These children have been identified through each of the elementary schools located around Mount Pleasant.

“After the success of our first two fundraisers, Team 2 will again be selling lunch out of our Emergency Operations Center at police headquarters,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “The more money we raise, the more children we can take shopping as we are trying to fund 10 but would love to take as many as 15.”

Inspector Googe encourages everyone to come out to 100 Ann Edwards Lane between 11:00am and 2:00pm on August 21, 2015 to take part in this event.

“We will also deliver your lunch if you have 10 or more orders and located in Mount Pleasant,” Googe says. “All you have to do is email crosier@tompsc.com and place your delivery order. The vendor will be accepting cash only.”

Armed Robbery

On August 19, 2015 at approximately 2:20am the subject pictured robbed the Circle K at 685 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. The suspect is believed be in his twenties and to have brandished a covered firearm. He fled the scene with cash from the registers.

Citizen's Police Academy Registration

Mount Pleasant, SC – The Mount Pleasant Police Department is recruiting citizens to enroll in the upcoming Mount Pleasant Citizen Police Academy beginning September 17th 2015. “The Mount Pleasant Police Department believes its service delivery must incorporate a shared responsibility with the community and motivate the strengths of neighborhoods. Critical to the success of this shared responsibility are well informed citizens who have an awareness of the mission, resources, practices, and services of the department. To engage our residents and provide insight to their police department, the Mount Pleasant Police Department has developed a 10-week Citizen’s Police Academy for the residents of Mount Pleasant,” said Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie. 

The Mount Pleasant Citizen’s Police Academy provides a chance for the citizens of Mount Pleasant to understand the various aspects of the police department on a more personal level and to closely interact with its members. A wide range of topics will be discussed to include, but not limited to, national accreditation, operations, uniform patrol, traffic services, and investigations.   “Community involvement is the most powerful, efficient, and practical force any local law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime,” said Crime Prevention Officer Bryce Gregory. “The department wants to encourage the citizens of the Town of Mount Pleasant to become active partners with their police department by working together to identify solutions and strategies to the problems facing Mount Pleasant. More than just an educational opportunity for citizens, the academy has proven beneficial to the police department as well. Several graduates have become volunteers for the police department, good will ambassadors for the Town of Mount Pleasant, and promoters of the academy itself.”  

Meetings are only on Thursdays for 10 weeks from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. These classes will allow flexibility for voluntary portions of the program. Class size will be limited to 20 students. Students must be at least 18 years of age and have successfully completed the application process.  The classes will take place at the Mount Pleasant Police Department, 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant. Officers Rescue Injured Deer

 

 

 

 



Mount Pleasant, SC – On July 26, 2015 Pfc. Kittle from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Rifle Range Rd. in reference to an injured deer. Officers found the deer along the roadway with what appeared to be a broken left rear leg. Cpl. Zeitner and Ofc. Morgan were riding in a two man unit and stopped to assist Pfc. Kittle. The deer was cut free of the briars, wrapped up in a blanket and transported to Veterinary Specialty Care on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Officers checked back with Veterinary Specialty Care and learned that the deer had been release from treatment and was now recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation facility.

 

 



National Night Out

 

 

 

 

On August 4^th, 2015 join over 37 million people in 16,124 communities to celebrate America’s National Night Out Against Crime.

“Officers will be set up in two locations this year. One at Edwards Park on Bank Street and one at the White Hall Community Center off Tower Road,” said Inspector Chip Googe. “The event will last from 6:00pm to 9:00pm ending with a walk through each of the respective neighborhoods.”

We will have numerous bureaus on display such as our K9 officers, Bike Team and Patrol Units. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department will also have their fire trucks on display. There will be K-9 demonstrations, bicycle raffles, snow cones, a jump castle, pizza and drinks! Fingerprinting will also be available from New York Life Insurance. The last hour of the event we will be walking through each of the respective neighborhoods to show how our communities and the Mount Pleasant Police Department are standing together to fight against crime.
