Citizen's Police Academy Graduation

Congratulations to Class 34 of our Citizen's Police Academy who graduated last night! They met one night a week, for ten weeks, learning about our agency and how we operate within the community. Class 35 will start in the spring of 2019. Please watch our social media channels as we will post when registration opens!

National Night Out

On August 1st, 2017 join over 37 million people in 16,124 communities to celebrate America’s National Night Out Against Crime.

“We encourage the community to come out and meet the officers who patrol their neighborhoods,” said Inspector Chip Googe. “The event will be in the Target parking lot from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.”

We will have numerous bureaus on display such as our K9 Officers, Bike Team, SWAT, and Patrol Units. Consolidated Dispatch will be have a booth set up to talk about Smart911. There will be a dunk tank, pizza, music, and more!

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is recruiting citizens to enroll in the upcoming Mount Pleasant Citizen's Police Academy beginning July 13, 2017.

“The Mount Pleasant Police Department believes its service delivery must incorporate a shared responsibility with the community and motivate the strengths of neighborhoods. Critical to the success of this shared responsibility are well informed citizens who have an awareness of the mission, resources, practices, and services of the department. To engage our residents and provide insight to their police department, the Mount Pleasant Police Department has developed a 10-week Citizen’s Police Academy for the residents of Mount Pleasant,” said Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie.

The Mount Pleasant Citizen’s Police Academy provides a chance for the citizens of Mount Pleasant to understand the various aspects of the police department on a more personal level and to closely interact with its members. A wide range of topics will be discussed to include, but not limited to, national accreditation, operations, uniform patrol, traffic services, and investigations.

"Community involvement is the most powerful, efficient, and practical force any local law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime,” said Crime Prevention Officer David Benjamin. “The department wants to encourage the citizens of the Town of Mount Pleasant to become active partners with their police department by working together to identify solutions and strategies to the problems facing Mount Pleasant. More than just an educational opportunity for citizens, the academy has proven beneficial to the police department as well. Several graduates have become volunteers for the police department, good will ambassadors for the Town of Mount Pleasant, and promoters of the academy itself.”

Meeting only on Thursdays, one day a week for 10 weeks, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., these classes will allow flexibility for voluntary portions of the program. Class size will be limited to 20 students of at least 18 years of age who have successfully completed the application process.

 

The classes will take place at the Mount Pleasant Police Department, 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department will also be on hand with their smoke house that can be used to teach lifesaving skills. Consolidated Dispatch will be have a booth set up to talk about Smart911 . There will be a bicycle raffle, snow cones, a jump castle, dunk tank, pizza, and more!

Blue Light Bowling

MPPD Kicks off Free Blue Light Bowling Camp Registration

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 13, 2016) - Registration for the Mount Pleasant Police Department Summer Blue Light Bowling Camp kicked off today. “This favorite community outreach program is free and fosters positive relationships with the youth of our community,” said Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie. ”Children ages 5-14 have the opportunity to bowl with an officer for two hours and develop lasting relationships with our men and women in blue.”

The Blue Light Bowling Camp will take place on June 15, June 29, July 13 and July 27, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at PINZ Bowling Alley, 613 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mount Pleasant.

“We limit each event to 50 Mount Pleasant students and we urge you to register soon. Registration is available online at www.tompsc.com. Visit our Police Youth Programs page and sign up,” said Sgt. William Mauldin. “Each bowler will receive a complimentary tee-shirt, pizza and soda.”

Christmas with the Police

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers are taking 18 children Christmas shopping at noon on December 18, 2015 at Wal-Mart in Oakland Plantation.

Police officers held a BBQ fundraiser this year to raise money to take 18 deserving children shopping. These children were identified through the local elementary schools and will be treated to a shopping trip with Mount Pleasant Police Officers.  “This shopping trip shows the partnership we have with our community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “Officers get to interact with these families in a positive way. They get to see police officers as people who deeply care about the community they serve and work hard to preserve a safe haven for their residents.” 

Officers have partnered with Wal-Mart in Oakland Market who provided $2,000 to help make this event possible. McDonalds will also provide lunch for the children prior to their shopping spree.

Mount Pleasant Police Expand Twitter Use

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers assigned to the Social Media Team now have their own accounts to engage the community. “We were looking for a way to encourage more interaction between officers and the community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “This gives our citizens more access to officers from different bureaus.” Each of these accounts will post information relevant to their bureaus. Citizens are encouraged to ask questions and get to know the officers that serve the community. These accounts will not be monitored 24/7 and Inspector Googe advises to call 911 in an emergency. Cops and Doughnuts Part II

Officers from around the Lowcountry were back at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Highway raising money for the Special Olympics. Cops squared off with a doughnut eating contest and the winner was Chief Turner from the Hanahan PD. His time to put away 12 glazed doughnuts: 1 minute 15 seconds!

Our final day at Krispy Kreme is tomorrow. We will be there from 6am to 6pm. Please come out and help us raise funds for these great athletes!

We will be at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Hwy today, tomorrow and Saturday raising money for Special Olympics. Stop by between 6am and 6pm each day. Today the media squared off in a doughnut eating contest where Andy Pruitt defended his title successfully. He downed a dozen glazed doughnuts in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Tomorrow the cops square off at the table at 11:00am!

Cops and Snacks Event

What: Cops and Snacks Event

When: October 16, 2015

Why: To benefit the James B. Edwards Elementary School Snack Program


We will be taking snack donations to help James B. Edwards with their school snack program. Stop by and drop off any unopened snacks to help children enrolled in this program. The school currently goes through about 600 snacks a month and can use your help!

Forest Acres, SC Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Forest Acres, SC Police Department and to the family/friends of Officer Greg Alia. Officer Alia was killed this morning in the line of duty after responding to a suspicious person call. The suspect has been arrested in this case.
