Disturbing Schools

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On August 21, 2019, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the area of Carolina Park Academy in reference to a suspicious person. The suspect was told by the complainant that the academy was private property. The suspect, Michael Gorlitsky, responded by saying, "It's not like I'm gonna shoot a bunch of kids. I just might." Officers arrested Michael Gorlitsky for Disturbing Schools and transported him to the Al Cannon Detention Center where he was lodged. 

Mount Pleasant Police Arrest Two for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On January 16, 2019, at approximately 5:17 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Stockade Lane in reference to a collision involving one vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found that a light pole had been struck by a 2013 Ford Focus. Officers did not locate any occupants at the scene. A check of the license plate revealed that the car was stolen out of Georgetown, S.C. A perimeter was set up and a K-9 unit was called for. An officer on the perimeter spoke to two people who directed him to two subjects sitting in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Express on Stockade Lane. While speaking with the subjects, a K-9 unit conducted a track that led the handler to the Holiday Inn Express. A prescription bottle was located in the stolen vehicle with the name A.J. Brown on the label that matched the name of one of the subjects at the Holiday Inn Express. Both subjects were taken into custody. 

AJ Brown, of Georgetown, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle,  Leaving the Scene of a Collision with a Fixed Object, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. 

The other subject, a 14-year-old juvenile, was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. 

Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder Arrest

Mount Pleasant, SC – On June 8, 2018 the Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested Dante E'leon Brown for Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime stemming from an incident on June 4, 2018.

On June 4, 2018, Dante Brown met with another subject in the parking lot of Publix in Park West for a narcotics transaction. During the deal, Dante Brown produced a gun and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the weapon went off with the bullet striking the other subject's car. Dante Brown then left the area. The other subject was transported to a local hospital and later released.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department wishes to thank the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force as well as the Charleston City Police Department for their help with Dante Brown's arrest.

This case is still under investigation.

Mount Pleasant, SC – On April 19th, 2018, the Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested Joshua Olando Washington (left) and Brandon Lloyd Daniels (right) for their involvement in the Armed Robbery that occurred on April 04, 2018 at 100 Church Street (Tavern and Table Restaurant).

Kidnapping (3 counts)

Burglary Arrest

Mount Pleasant, SC – On October 25, 2017, at approximately 4:38 a.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Finz Bar and Grill on Coleman Blvd. in reference to a burglary alarm. Upon arrival, an officer observed a vehicle that was backed next to a storage building. The officer knocked on the wall of the building and announced his presence. When a person answered back, the officer had them exit the building and took them into custody without incident. On the floor of the storage shed officers found frozen crab legs, prime rib, pulled pork, and other various food items. Two sets of bolt cutters and a cut lock were found outside of the storage building.

Twylia R. Brafford, of North Charleston, was arrested and charged with Burglary in the 2^nd Degree and Possession of Burglary Tools. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

 

Felony Driving Under the Influence Arrest

Mount Pleasant, SC – On June 14, 2017, at approximately 2:06 a.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Highway 17 southbound at Ira Road in reference to a collision. A 4-door sedan was stopped at the red light on Highway 17 in front of Wando Crossing when a sport utility vehicle, also heading south, struck the rear of the sedan. The driver of the sport utility vehicle, Charlton R. Griffith of Charleston, was arrested and charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence. He was lodged at the Charleston County Detention Center. The driver of the sedan died as a result of the injuries sustained.

This collision is still under investigation.

Mount Pleasant, SC – On June 9, 2017, Cortlyn Brown was charged with Armed Robbery in connection with the incident that occurred at the United Community Bank in Park West on May 12, 2017.



 

 

Mount Pleasant, SC – On May 18^th, 2017, Kalee D. Lynn-Bishop and Kamal D’Andrea Backman were arrested and charged with Armed Robbery stemming from the incident at United Community Bank in Park West on May 12^th, 2017.

“Our detectives worked around the clock following every lead to identify these dangerous individuals and take them into custody,” said Chief Carl Ritchie.

The investigation into this case is ongoing.

Felony DUI

 

 

Mount Pleasant, SC – On January 7, 2016, at approximately 8:04 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Highway 17 and Mathis Ferry Road in reference to a collision. The preliminary investigation reveals that a Jeep Sport Utility Vehicle, driven by Robert Leland, was heading south on Highway 17 when he disregarded a red light. Robert Leland struck a 4 door Mercedes who was turning left onto Highway 17 from Mathis Ferry Road. Robert Leland was found to be under the influence and arrested for 2 counts of Felony DUI. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

MPPD Make Drug and Weapon Arrests

Mount Pleasant, SC – On December 19, 2016, at approximately 10:52 a.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to 261 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard (Days Inn) in reference to a disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival officers made contact with the two suspects involved, Christopher Williams and Yahshua Moses. As officers were approaching the suspects, Yahshua Moses began yelling about a maid who allegedly took $6,000.00 from his room. While speaking to Yahshua Moses, he admitted to having a weapon and showed it to officers by moving his jacket allowing the handle of the gun to be seen in his right pocket. The weapon was secured and Yahshua Moses was taken into custody.

An officer speaking with Christopher Williams located a plastic bag in his jacket pocket that he admitted to containing 19 grams of marijuana, 26.7 grams of cocaine, and 24.5 grams of heroin. Christopher Williams was taken into custody.  

The victim advised officers that Yahshua Moses approached her and demanded to know who cleaned his room. During the conversation Yahshua Moses presented the firearm to her by pulling up his shirt and stating he was going to “shut this place down.”

Yahshua Moses was charged with Pointing a Firearm, Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Violent Crime, Trafficking Cocaine Base, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, and Trafficking Heroin.

Christopher Williams was charged with Trafficking Cocaine Base, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Trafficking Heroin, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Violent Crime.

Both suspects were lodged at the Al Cannon, Jr. Detention Center.

Vehicle Break-In Arrest

Mount Pleasant, SC – On December 16, 2016, at approximately 6:32 am, the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a vehicle break-in at Fit Body Boot Camp on Market Center Blvd. A witness had observed a silver Dodge Charger leaving the area and provided a description.  An officer responding to the call observed a vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle coming to a stop in the Towne Centre near IHOP. Once stopped both occupants fled the scene on foot and after a short foot pursuit Jabarie Cooper, of Georgia, was captured. Cooper has been charged with multiple counts of Breaking into Motor Vehicles.

Mount Pleasant, SC – On December 15, 2016, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Dataw Court in reference to a shooting. The victim, Jack Herndon, was located inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to the Medical University of South Carolina. Ernest Miner Comar, Jr. was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder along with Possession of a Firearm During a Violent Crime.

On August 20, 2016, at approximately 3:40 a.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Perseverance Street in reference to a stabbing. Matthew Barnes was attending a house party at this location when an altercation broke out with another guest. During the altercation, Matthew Barnes produced a knife and stabbed the first victim in the neck and abdomen. A second victim was cut on the arm and shoulder. Both victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and have since been released. Matthew Barnes turned himself in to officers today and has been charged with Attempted Murder, Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.

On June 23, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department was dispatched to 1053 Rifle Range Road (Riverwood Apartments) in reference to a male peeping into an apartment. The complainant advised responding officers that she observed a white male place both hands on her neighbor's brick window sill and peer into the bedroom.  The complainant showed officers the path the suspect took and he was located a short time later. After a positive identification was made by the complainant, Christopher Carrier was arrested for Peeping Tom and lodged at the Al Cannon, Jr. Detention Center.

2nd Shooting Suspect Arrested

On April 20, 2016, at approximately 11:30 a.m., William N. Alston, Jr. was arrested in connection with the April 6^th shooting in Remely’s Point near Mathis Ferry Road. Alston was arrested during a traffic stop on Remount Road near Rivers Avenue by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Charleston City Police Department. Alston has been charged with Attempted Murder and is lodged at the Al Cannon, Jr. Detention Center.

Darryl Evans, II was captured today by the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with the help of the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Charleston City Police Department, the North Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. Evans was wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred on April 6, 2016 in Remley's Point near Mathis Ferry Road.

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police arrest suspect involved in New Year’s hit and run on Ben Sawyer Blvd.

 

Joseph Bosso was arrested today for a hit and run that occurred on January 1, 2016 at 12:46am in the parking lot of CVS located at 1401 Ben Sawyer Blvd. Mr. Bosso was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Collision with Great Bodily Injury and Leaving the Scene of a Collision with Personal Injury after he struck two pedestrians and left the area. He was lodged at the Al Cannon, Jr. Detention Center.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is Cracking Down on Drunk Driving this July 4th

Mount Pleasant, SC – The Fourth of July holiday is a favorite time of year for many Americans. Backyard parties, good food, and fireworks. But the celebrating unfortunately turns deadly when people drive after drinking alcohol.  Drunk driving is a preventable problem on Independence Day each year in the United States.

• In 2013, Forbes magazine named the Independence Day holiday “the most dangerous holiday of the year.”
• This year, the Fourth comes on a Saturday, so Friday, July 3, is the Federal holiday and observance. That means the Fourth of July weekend starts at 6 p.m. Thursday and extends to 5:59 a.m. Monday morning, July 6.
• In 2013, there were 512 people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes over the Fourth of July holiday (6 p.m. July 3rd through 5:59 a.m. July 8th). Of those fatalities, 199 (39%) occurred in crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 grams per deciliter or higher.
• During the July Fourth holiday period in 2013, the rate of alcohol impairment among drivers involved in fatal crashes was over three times higher at night than during the day.
• Unfortunately, these enforcement campaigns are necessary—drunk driving is an epidemic in our nation. In 2013, there were 10,076 people killed in drunk-driving crashes. That’s almost one third of all traffic fatalities nationwide.

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (April 6, 2015) - Jimmy Coaxum was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina for the murder of Tameka Mitchell which occurred on April 4th, 2015. He is currently lodged at the Cumberland County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Charleston.
