Amy's Choice

Hear the true story of a 15-year-old girl who left home to meet in person a man she first "met" online. Make sure your kids understand the importance of letting you know where they will be and who they are with. They need to know they can come to you when they have a problem.

Post to Be Private

Does your child understand how to set their social media pages to private? Do they know who is on their "friends" list? Watch this video and discuss with them the importance of accepting friend requests only from people they know in real life. Also talk to them about not oversharing personal information or identifying information in pictures and video.

You Can't Take It Back

Do your children know what cyberbullying is? Cyberbullying is the use of technology to tease, humiliate, threaten, and/or harass someone. After watching the video ask them how private they think the internet is. Are they respectful towards others and would they ever put any information on a website intended for only their friends? Let them know that cyberbullying can occur through text messages or social media. Cyberbullies might send hurtful comments, pictures designed to embarrass someone, or make fun of others. Make sure they know they can come to you for help.

Social Media Page

What does your social media page say about you? Watch this video with your kids and find out if they have any of these on their page:

  • Embarrassing pictures
  • Personal information
  • Inappropriate videos
  • Threats
  • Complaints about teachers

Talk to your kids about who might see these posts on their page, how it could hurt others, and how it could affect their future. Once something is posted to the internet it is almost impossible to completely delete it. Decisions your kids make today could play a role in their future!

Mount Pleasant Police Expand Twitter Use

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers assigned to the Social Media Team now have their own accounts to engage the community. “We were looking for a way to encourage more interaction between officers and the community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “This gives our citizens more access to officers from different bureaus.” Each of these accounts will post information relevant to their bureaus. Citizens are encouraged to ask questions and get to know the officers that serve the community. These accounts will not be monitored 24/7 and Inspector Googe advises to call 911 in an emergency. Here is the list of accounts for the Mount Pleasant Police Department:
