Missing Person

On March 7, 2015, the mother of Cara Treadway, reported her daughter as a missing person.  Cara had been in the Charleston area staying with her boyfriend (Blake Drayton Barber) at 1880 Cherokee Rose Circle in the Dunes West Subdivision.  Treadway’s mother last received an email from her daughter on February 27, 2015 saying that she felt lost and alone.  Treadway’s mother also stated that several of her friends received the same message.  Attached is a photo of Treadway as well as a photo of Treadway and Barber.  If you have any information please contact Det. 2015 MASC Achievement Award

Yesterday the Town of Mount Pleasant presented their Reading Patrol Program to the Municipal Association of South Carolina for an Achievement Award. The MASC awards municipalities for innovative and unique programs in different areas. Today we were notified that the Town of Mount Pleasant won the 2015 MASC Achievement Award in the Communications Category!

We want to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of this great program! We look forward to bringing forth more outreach programs that allow us to connect with our community!

The Mount Pleasant Police Department Chief of Police Carl Ritchie is pleased to announce that a team  of two assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA),  will arrive on Sunday, March 22, 2015 to examine all aspects of the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.   This assessment will be the seventh re-accreditation after receiving initial accreditation status in 1992. A team of two assessors, composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies across the nation, will once again verify internationally recognized standards that the department  has maintained over the past 23 years, as part of this voluntary process.   Assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, visit offices and others where compliance can be verified. Assessors will report to the Commission on Accreditation for Law  Enforcement Agencies, who will make the final decision on re-accreditation.   As part of the process, the Mount Pleasant community, department employees, as well as any member of the general public is invited to comment on the agencies compliance with CALEA  standards by telephone or by appearance at a public hearing session. Telephone calls can be made to 843-881-2147 and will be taken by assessors on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 PM. The public hearing will also be held Monday at 4:30 PM in the Town of Mount Pleasant Council Chambers located at 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant.   Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the Standards is available at the Mount Pleasant Police Department Inquiries should be directed to the Accreditation Manager Inspector Chip Googe at 843-884-4176.

Career Fair for Belle Hall Elementary

One of our School Resource Officers, Cpl. Bill Dorfner, was able to set up an area to meet children from Belle Hall Elementary at their career fair this morning. All of the kids were excited and asked thoughtful questions about our job. Thank you to Belle Hall for inviting us!

 

2015 Polar Plunge

Scam Alert

Phone scams are still an issue and we need your help to spread the word! If you are called and asked to send several thousand dollars to anyone in return for the release of millions of dollars to you, it is a SCAM. Please do not send any money to these individuals! In our latest scam the victim was also given a phony telephone number to Homeland Security to verify. This number was set up by the scammer in an attempt to get the victim to let their guard down.

If you receive a telephone call like this, please let us know so that we can investigate it BEFORE you send any money.

 



Coffee with a Cop

Last week we partnered with Chick-fil-A of North Mount Pleasant for our Coffee with a Cop outreach program. This event drew our largest crowd since the inception of the program.
