Expanding Social Media with Nextdoor

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Mount Pleasant Police Department is expanding
their community outreach through the social media site Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com).

Since October of 2014 the Mount Pleasant Police Department has been utilizing
Nextdoor to connect with their citizens. Inspector Chip Googe and Corporal Chris
Rosier have been coordinating speed enforcement, reporting crime trends, answering
questions about the law and supplying information about upcoming events. Starting
today they will be joined by the members of Team 2 headed by Sgt. Tyrone Simmons.

“We now have an entire patrol team that will be available to answer questions and
respond to concerns in the neighborhoods that they patrol” said Inspector Googe.
“This will allow us to expand our community outreach by having more officers readily
 available to respond.”

Nextdoor is free for residents and the Mount Pleasant Police Department. Each
Mount Pleasant neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website,
accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and
self-manage their own Nextdoor website. All members must verify that they live within
the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is
password-protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

“This partnership with Nextdoor gives neighbors an easy way to not only get to know
each other, but develop a stronger relationship with our police department“ said
Inspector Chip Googe. “We believe that building trust and constant communication
channels will lead to stronger and safer neighborhoods.”

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit
www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If residents have questions about
their Nextdoor website, please visit help.nextdoor.com.
