Mount Pleasant Police Expand Twitter Use

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers assigned to the Social Media Team now have their own accounts to engage the community. “We were looking for a way to encourage more interaction between officers and the community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “This gives our citizens more access to officers from different bureaus.” Each of these accounts will post information relevant to their bureaus. Citizens are encouraged to ask questions and get to know the officers that serve the community. These accounts will not be monitored 24/7 and Inspector Googe advises to call 911 in an emergency. Traffic Collision

          Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 23, 2015 at approximately 1:08pm the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to an automobile versus a pedestrian collision on Hwy 17 at Anna Knapp Boulevard.   The vehicle was heading northbound on Hwy 17 when a pedestrian walked out into traffic. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Community Event at Cinebarre

Collision Investigation

Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 18, 2015 at approximately  8:58pm  a pedestrian,  crossing Highway 17 near the Town Centre towards Montclair Apartments, was struck by a vehicle heading south bound on Highway 17. The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries caused as a result of the collision. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call the Traffic Bureau at 843-884-4176.

Shoplifting Suspects

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help to identify two women suspected of stealing alcohol from Egan's Spirits located at 1909 Highway 17 North. Collision with Injuries

    Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 16, 2015 at approximately 7:00pm the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a collision with injuries on West Coleman Boulevard at Patriots Province. A vehicle attempted to turn left from Patriots Province onto Coleman Boulevard but was struck by a vehicle heading southbound towards the Ravenel Bridge. Two individuals were transported to area hospitals. This collision is still under investigation by the Traffic Bureau.

Missing Person

Mount Pleasant, SC – The Mount Pleasant Police Department is trying to locate Mr. Daniel C. Riggs of Mathis Ferry Rd. He has been missing since November 9, 2015 at around 5:21pm. Mr. Riggs may be driving a black 2007 Dodge Nitro with a South Carolina tag of FUZ345 and may be in the Myrtle Beach area. He is 48 years old, 5’11” tall, weighs 195lbs, has blue eyes and brown hair. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Riggs please contact Detective Ivey at 843-856-3030.

Cops and Doughnuts Part II

Click to See Photo Album   Officers from around the Lowcountry were back at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Highway raising money for the Special Olympics. Cops squared off with a doughnut eating contest and the winner was Chief Turner from the Hanahan PD. His time to put away 12 glazed doughnuts: 1 minute 15 seconds! Our final day at Krispy Kreme is tomorrow. We will be there from 6am to 6pm. Please come out and help us raise funds for these great athletes!

Cops and Doughnuts for Special Olympics

Photo Album    We will be at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Hwy today, tomorrow and Saturday raising money for Special Olympics. Stop by between 6am and 6pm each day. Today the media squared off in a doughnut eating contest where Andy Pruitt defended his title successfully. He downed a dozen glazed doughnuts in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Tomorrow the cops square off at the table at 11:00am! Come out and help us raise money for the Special Olympics!

South Carolina's Child Passenger Restraint Law

 South Carolina’s child passenger restraint law requires that: Children from birth to 1 year old, or who weigh less than 20 pounds, must be secured in a rear-facing child safety seat. Children 1 through 5 years old weighing at least 20 pounds and less than 40 pounds must be restrained in a forward-facing child seat. Children 1 through 5 years old weighing 40 to 80 pounds must be secured in a belt-positioning booster seat. Children under the age of 6 are not required to be in booster seats if they weigh more than 80 pounds or if they can sit with their backs against the car's seat and bend their legs over the seat edge without slouching. Children under 6 may not sit in the front passenger seat. However, this restriction does not apply if the vehicle has no rear passenger seats or if all other rear passenger seats are occupied by children less than 6 years old. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help to identify a man suspected of using a stolen credit card at the Sunoco Service Station located at 1683 Highway 17 North.
