Cooper River Bridge Run Information

Below are the scheduled times for road closings on the Mount Pleasant Side of the Cooper River Bridge Run.       4:30am       Race route closed - Chuck Dawley to Whilden St. on Coleman Blvd.                 Officers will divert northbound Coleman traffic down Whilden St. 5:00am    Shuttles begin running. Pickup locations for Mount Pleasant :                Towne Center                 Whitesides Elementary School                 Laing Middle School                Shuttles will return participants to Mt Pleasant from finish line.                                 6:30am    Whilden to Houston Northcutt will be closed to vehicle traffic.                Houston Northcutt traffic will be diverted towards the Ravenel.                 West Coleman traffic will be diverted onto Houston Northcutt.                Wheelchair athletes escorted to start line.   7:00am    Closure of Ravenel Bridge (both directions)                Hwy 17 from Houston No

SCAM Alert

    A man claiming to be Steve Martin is calling citizens claiming to be with the IRS. He threatens people with a lawsuit if they ignore his calls. The number he calls from is 334-610-1137. Please do not fall for any scam he trys to push on you. The IRS will not call and threaten to bring a lawsuit or to place you under arrest. 

Filing a False Police Report

            Joanna Marie Mangan 2901 Chatsworth Road Columbia, SC 29812 White Female 5’05” 250lbs Red Hair/Brown Eyes   MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C . On March 19, 2015 at 1:30pm Joanna M. Mangano reported that she was robbed at gunpoint by two individuals on Coleman Blvd. at MaGrath Darby. Ms. Mangano gave a statement implicating the two suspects and picked them out of a photo lineup. Ms. Mangano knows both people she falsely accused of robbing her. She has been charged with Filing a False Police Report and has been lodged at the Charleston County Detention Center.    

Animal Control Officer Retires

We want to thank Animal Control Officer John Zaehringer for the 16 years of service he provided to the Town of Mount Pleasant. John retired yesterday and was presented a plaque by SSgt. Hethington. We wish him the best in his future endeavors!

Missing Person

On March 7, 2015, the mother of Cara Treadway, reported her daughter as a missing person.   Cara had been in the Charleston area staying with her boyfriend ( Blake Drayton Barber ) at 1880 Cherokee Rose Circle in the Dunes West Subdivision.   Treadway’s mother last received an email from her daughter on February 27, 2015 saying that she felt lost and alone.   Treadway’s mother also stated that several of her friends received the same message.   Attached is a photo of Treadway as well as a photo of Treadway and Barber.   If you have any information please contact Det. 2015 MASC Achievement Award

Yesterday the Town of Mount Pleasant presented their Reading Patrol Program to the Municipal Association of South Carolina for an Achievement Award. The MASC awards municipalities for innovative and unique programs in different areas. Today we were notified that the Town of Mount Pleasant won the 2015 MASC Achievement Award in the Communications Category! We want to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of this great program! We look forward to bringing forth more outreach programs that allow us to connect with our community!      

CALEA On-Site 2015

Press Release   The Mount Pleasant Police Department Chief of Police Carl Ritchie is pleased to announce that a team  of two assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) ,  will arrive on Sunday, March 22, 2015 to examine all aspects of the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.   This assessment will be the seventh re-accreditation after receiving initial accreditation status in 1992. A team of two assessors, composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies across the nation, will once again verify internationally recognized standards that the department  has maintained over the past 23 years, as part of this voluntary process.   Assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, visit offices and others where compliance can be verified.
