              One of our citizens was scammed when a subject called posing as an agent with the IRS. He told the victim that she would be arrested if she did not wire him $5,000. The suspect called back and demanded she wire him $10,000 more.   The IRS wil NOT call and ask you to wire money to them nor will they threaten to arrest you. Please do not fall for this scam!

Christmas with the Police

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers are taking 18 children Christmas shopping at noon on December 18, 2015 at Wal-Mart in Oakland Plantation. Police officers held a BBQ fundraiser this year to raise money to take 18 deserving children shopping. These children were identified through the local elementary schools and will be treated to a shopping trip with Mount Pleasant Police Officers.   “This shopping trip shows the partnership we have with our community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “Officers get to interact with these families in a positive way. They get to see police officers as people who deeply care about the community they serve and work hard to preserve a safe haven for their residents.”   Officers have partnered with Wal-Mart in Oakland Market who provided $2,000 to help make this event possible. McDonalds will also provide lunch for the children prior to their shopping spree.

Suspicious Activity Call

              Mount Pleasant, SC – The Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital this morning in reference to a suspicious activity call. A complainant alleged that there was a person with a gun on the hospital campus so the hospital went on lockdown. Officers thoroughly searched the area and found no one with a weapon. Officers cleared the scene at 7:12am. 

In Memory of Vaughn Edward Kee

On December 13, 1985 at 2:35am Mount Pleasant Police Officer Vaughn Edward Kee stopped an intoxicated driver on Coleman Blvd. near Sea Island Shopping Center. During the traffic stop a second intoxicated driver struck Officer Kee as he stood near his police car. Officer Kee gave his life to protect the citizens of Mount Pleasant! Please   ‪#‎ moveover‬   when you see emergency vehicles to give them room to work!

They have good reason to: in 2013, 10,076 people were killed in crashes involving a drunk driver. In December 2013 alone there were 733 people killed in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. 23 of those deaths occurred on Christmas Day.    “It’s time for all drivers to get the message,” said Sgt. Kimberly Herring.

Mount Pleasant Police Expand Twitter Use

Mount Pleasant, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officers assigned to the Social Media Team now have their own accounts to engage the community. “We were looking for a way to encourage more interaction between officers and the community,” says Inspector Chip Googe. “This gives our citizens more access to officers from different bureaus.” Each of these accounts will post information relevant to their bureaus. Citizens are encouraged to ask questions and get to know the officers that serve the community. These accounts will not be monitored 24/7 and Inspector Googe advises to call 911 in an emergency. Traffic Collision

          Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 23, 2015 at approximately 1:08pm the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to an automobile versus a pedestrian collision on Hwy 17 at Anna Knapp Boulevard.   The vehicle was heading northbound on Hwy 17 when a pedestrian walked out into traffic. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Collision Investigation

Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 18, 2015 at approximately  8:58pm  a pedestrian,  crossing Highway 17 near the Town Centre towards Montclair Apartments, was struck by a vehicle heading south bound on Highway 17. The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries caused as a result of the collision. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call the Traffic Bureau at 843-884-4176.

Collision with Injuries

    Mount Pleasant, SC – On November 16, 2015 at approximately 7:00pm the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a collision with injuries on West Coleman Boulevard at Patriots Province. A vehicle attempted to turn left from Patriots Province onto Coleman Boulevard but was struck by a vehicle heading southbound towards the Ravenel Bridge. Two individuals were transported to area hospitals. This collision is still under investigation by the Traffic Bureau.

Mount Pleasant, SC – The Mount Pleasant Police Department is trying to locate Mr. Daniel C. Riggs of Mathis Ferry Rd. He has been missing since November 9, 2015 at around 5:21pm. Mr. Riggs may be driving a black 2007 Dodge Nitro with a South Carolina tag of FUZ345 and may be in the Myrtle Beach area. He is 48 years old, 5’11” tall, weighs 195lbs, has blue eyes and brown hair. Cops and Doughnuts Part II

Click to See Photo Album   Officers from around the Lowcountry were back at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Highway raising money for the Special Olympics. Cops squared off with a doughnut eating contest and the winner was Chief Turner from the Hanahan PD. His time to put away 12 glazed doughnuts: 1 minute 15 seconds! Our final day at Krispy Kreme is tomorrow. We will be there from 6am to 6pm. Please come out and help us raise funds for these great athletes!

Cops and Doughnuts for Special Olympics

Photo Album    We will be at Krispy Kreme on Savannah Hwy today, tomorrow and Saturday raising money for Special Olympics. Stop by between 6am and 6pm each day. Today the media squared off in a doughnut eating contest where Andy Pruitt defended his title successfully. He downed a dozen glazed doughnuts in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Tomorrow the cops square off at the table at 11:00am! Come out and help us raise money for the Special Olympics!

South Carolina's Child Passenger Restraint Law

 South Carolina’s child passenger restraint law requires that: Children from birth to 1 year old, or who weigh less than 20 pounds, must be secured in a rear-facing child safety seat. Children 1 through 5 years old weighing at least 20 pounds and less than 40 pounds must be restrained in a forward-facing child seat. Children 1 through 5 years old weighing 40 to 80 pounds must be secured in a belt-positioning booster seat. Children under the age of 6 are not required to be in booster seats if they weigh more than 80 pounds or if they can sit with their backs against the car's seat and bend their legs over the seat edge without slouching. Children under 6 may not sit in the front passenger seat. However, this restriction does not apply if the vehicle has no rear passenger seats or if all other rear passenger seats are occupied by children less than 6 years old. SWAT Team to visit the MUSC Children's Hospital Dressed as Superheroes

          What:   SWAT Team Rappelling as Superheroes Where: MUSC Children's Hospital When:  October 29, 2015 at 2:30pm   The Mount Pleasant Police Department's SWAT Team will rappel down the atrium of the MUSC Children's Hospital dressed as superheroes tomorrow at 2:30pm. This will be the second year the SWAT team has organized this event.   

Halloween Safety Tips

With Halloween coming up Saturday we wanted to give you a few tips to help keep you and your children safe while trick or treating: Walk Safely *Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.  Look left, right and left again  when crossing and keep looking as you cross. *Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street. *Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them. *Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left  as possible. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings. *Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or  cross between parked cars. *Trick or treat with an adult. *Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. Cops and Snacks Event

On October 16th, 2015 we collected snacks outside of Target to help stock the James B. Edwards Elementary School snack program. Today we able to deliver what we collected to the school. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and contributed to the enormous success of this snack drive!

Body Recovered

Mount Pleasant, SC – On October 14, 2015 around 8:30am officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the Remleys Point boat landing regarding the recovery of a body. The body was located between Remleys Point and the Wando Terminal. Investigators from the Mount Pleasant Police Department are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death.
