Forest Acres, SC Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Forest Acres, SC Police Department and to the family/friends of Officer Greg Alia. Officer Alia was killed this morning in the line of duty after responding to a suspicious person call. The suspect has been arrested in this case.

Scam Alert

 

 

 

 

 

One of our residents received a call yesterday and was told she had won 2.5 million dollars and a Mercedes-Benz from Publishers Clearing House. The caller said that all she had to do was send him a check for $8,900.00 through the Post Office to receive her prizes. This was recognized as a scam and no money was sent to the suspect. Do not fall for this scam! The Internet Crime Complaint Center offers these warning signs to a possible scam:

 

 

• If the lottery winnings appear too good to be true, they probably are.
• Be cautious when dealing with individuals outside of your own country.
• Be leery if you do not remember entering a lottery or contest.
• Be cautious if you receive a telephone call stating you are the winner in a lottery.
• Beware of lotteries that charge a fee prior to delivery of your prize.
• Be wary of demands to send additional money to be eligible for future winnings.

 

Assault

Mount Pleasant, SC – On September 22, 2015 the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Roper St. Francis Hospital in reference to a person with a gunshot wound. An officer made contact with the victim and determined that he was grazed by a bullet after being physically attacked from behind. The victim has been uncooperative with detectives. The incident allegedly occurred in Whitehall Terrace in the area of Happyland Blvd. and is still under investigation.

What: Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Tournament

When: October 3, 2015 - 9:00am 

Where: 391 Egypt Rd. (Jones Center)

Why: Proceeds benefit the Carolina Children's Charity

Come support local police, fire and healthcare workers as we play softball to raise money for the Carolina Children's Charity. There will be jump castles, snow cones and Sparky the Fire Dog for the kids! First pitch is at 9:00am when we take on the Charleston Fire Department. Hope to see you there!
