Press Release

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On May 23, 2018, at approximately 7:18 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the 300 block of 4 th  Ave. i n reference to a possible disturbance. As officers where attempting to determine the cause of the disturbance, the suspect cursed at them and ran inside his home. The victim in this incident told officers that the suspect attempted to stab him with a knife , threatened to kill him, and threatened to burn his house down.    Officers   continuously  tried to make  con tact with the suspect,  Timotheaous  Washington, and get him to come out of his home but he refused. The Crisis Intervention Response Team  attempted to  pe rsua de  the suspect  to come out of his home but he continually refused. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get Mr. Washington to come out, t he  Special Weapons and Tactics Team used gas canisters  that forced him outside where he was taken into custody .       The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help to identify the two subjects pictured above. They are suspected of being involved in the attempted theft of Rolex watches from Reeds Jewelers on May 19, 2018 on Belk Drive. They were last seen getting into a dark grey Volvo Sedan with tinted windows. A witness reported that the tag on the vehicle was a dealer tag with red lettering.       Anyone with information about these two subjects is asked to contact Detective Stephenson at 843-884-4176 or vstephenson@tompsc.com . I-526 Update

Wando River Bridge Opens to Two-Way Traffic Sunday, May 20 By Town of Mount Pleasant, Charleston County and City of Charleston Public Information Officers        MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 2018) – In anticipation of SCDOT’s press conference, Mount Pleasant, Charleston County and Charleston public information officers met today at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall Municipal EOC to support public information efforts in the wake of the Wando River Bridge closure.        Lane closures on I-526, near the approaches to the cross-overs, will be intermittent today through Sunday, May 20. The plan is to open the Wando River Bridge eastbound lanes for two-way traffic Sunday afternoon, in preparation for the commute on Monday, May 21.  Once implemented, the plan will call for the deployment of resources to include a contingent of 26 state troopers and tow trucks strategically deployed along I-526. All vehicles, including trucks, will be allowed and speed will be limited to 45 mph.        SCDOT em

2018 Police Week

  MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. ( May 9, 2018) – In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.   On May 15, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall, the Mount Pleasant Police Department will commemorate police week. Displays will be set up inside and outside of Town Hall. Collision Investigation

Mount Plea sant, S.C. - On May 8, 2018, at approximately 8:29 a.m. , officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Highway 17 North at Carolina Park Blvd. in reference to a collision. The preliminary investigation   reveal ed   that a motorcyclist was heading north on Highway 17 when they swerved to avoid stopped traffic. During the evasive action, the motorcyclist sideswiped another vehicle   and was   ejected . The motorcyclist died on scene.      The Mount Pleasant Police Department's Traffic Bureau is still investigating this incident.

Coast to the Capital

  On   May 10th, 2018 at 9:30 am   Law Enforcement Officers from around the Lowcountry will begin a 130-mile relay of a Special Olympics Flame of Hope. Starting from the beach at Sullivan’s Island’s Station 22 1/2 Street, officers will escort the Torch to the steps of the Statehouse in Columbia.    Appropriately deemed the Coast to the Capital, this event will coincide with relays from other parts of the state and conclude with a press conference on the steps of the Capital on May 11th, 2018 announcing the beginning of the Special Olympics Summer Games.  At 6:00 pm on May 11th, officers will continue their journey for a 7.5 mile run from the Capital to Fort Jackson where the torch will be used to light the cauldron for the Summer Games.    This represents the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics continued commitment to increase awareness, raise funds, and provide support for South Carolina’s 28,902 Special Olympic Athletes.   Anyone interested in supporting o

Law Enforcement United Road to Hope

    Mount Pleasant, SC – Team Lowcountry is conducting their final Law Enforcement United bicycle training ride on May 6, 2018 beginning 4:00 p.m. at Belks located at 1218 Belk Drive. This training session is open to the public and will offer media outlets the ability to gather footage as this will be the final time the entire team will be together before the event.   Law Enforcement United is a group of law enforcement officers, survivors, and civilian supporters whose mission is to honor fallen officers and remember the survivors.     A send-off ceremony is set for May 8, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant Police Department located at 100 Ann Edwards Lane. Team Lowcountry is representing seven fallen officers from South Carolina as they ride from Chesapeake, Virginia to Washington, D.C.  in the Law Enforcement United Road to Hope bicycle tour.
