Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On May 23, 2018, at approximately 7:18 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the 300 block of 4th Ave. in reference to a possible disturbance. As officers where attempting to determine the cause of the disturbance, the suspect cursed at them and ran inside his home. The victim in this incident told officers that the suspect attempted to stab him with a knife, threatened to kill him, and threatened to burn his house down.  Officers continuously tried to make contact with the suspect, Timotheaous Washington, and get him to come out of his home but he refused. The Crisis Intervention Response Team attempted to persuade the suspect to come out of his home but he continually refused. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get Mr. Washington to come out, the Special Weapons and Tactics Team used gas canisters that forced him outside where he was taken into custody. He was charged with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature and lodged at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is seeking the public's help to identify the two subjects pictured above. They are suspected of being involved in the attempted theft of Rolex watches from Reeds Jewelers on May 19, 2018 on Belk Drive. They were last seen getting into a dark grey Volvo Sedan with tinted windows. A witness reported that the tag on the vehicle was a dealer tag with red lettering.

I-526 Update

Wando River Bridge Opens to Two-Way Traffic Sunday, May 20

       MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 2018) – In anticipation of SCDOT’s press conference, Mount Pleasant, Charleston County and Charleston public information officers met today at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall Municipal EOC to support public information efforts in the wake of the Wando River Bridge closure.

       Lane closures on I-526, near the approaches to the cross-overs, will be intermittent today through Sunday, May 20. The plan is to open the Wando River Bridge eastbound lanes for two-way traffic Sunday afternoon, in preparation for the commute on Monday, May 21.  Once implemented, the plan will call for the deployment of resources to include a contingent of 26 state troopers and tow trucks strategically deployed along I-526. All vehicles, including trucks, will be allowed and speed will be limited to 45 mph.

       SCDOT emphasizes the need for motorists to choose their own travel route. The Wando River Bridge two-way traffic plan is another option to supplement existing traffic management strategies. Messaging boards will alert motorist to proper driving precautions as they near the cross-overs.

       Motorists are reminded to follow law enforcement directions, allow for ample travel time, and not drive distracted.

       Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall, Deputy Secretary for Engineering Leland Colvin, and Traffic Engineering Director Rob Perry discussed the two-way traffic plan at today’s news conference at the agency’s District Headquarters in North Charleston.

2018 Police Week

 

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (May 9, 2018) – In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

 

On May 15, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall, the Mount Pleasant Police Department will commemorate police week. Displays will be set up inside and outside of Town Hall. The following units are scheduled to be on display:

·         Crime Scene Bureau

Collision Investigation

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On May 8, 2018, at approximately 8:29 a.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Highway 17 North at Carolina Park Blvd. in reference to a collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcyclist was heading north on Highway 17 when they swerved to avoid stopped traffic. During the evasive action, the motorcyclist sideswiped another vehicle and was ejected. The motorcyclist died on scene.  

 

The Mount Pleasant Police Department's Traffic Bureau is still investigating this incident.
