UPDATE - Fatal Hit and Run

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On July 11, 2019, officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested William Henry Aniello Sipes, III, of Goose Creek, in connection with the hit and run fatality that occurred on Chuck Dawley Blvd. on July 4th. William Sipes was arrested and charged with Duties of a Driver Involved in an Accident Resulting in Death. Sipes has been lodged at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On July 4, 2019, at approximately 11:35 p.m., a bicyclist was fatally struck on Chuck Dawley Blvd. near Bowman Rd. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist then left the scene. The vehicle is described as a blue Ford Mustang that may have a 2010 body style and should have damage on the front.

Death Investigation

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On June 12, 2019, at approximately 8:01 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Fox Tail Lane in reference to the complainant finding a deceased person. Officers did locate a body in a nearby shed. The Coroner’s Office was contacted and an autopsy will be conducted. The preliminary investigation has not revealed any foul play in this case. The investigation is ongoing. 

Graduation News

The Charleston County School District released the following statement about the parking situation at the Coliseum for graduations:

Due to the construction of a parking deck at the North Charleston Coliseum property, there will ONLY be a maximum of 1700 parking passes at any given time for ALL of the PAC and the Coliseum. If your family or friends do not have a ticket for the North Charleston Coliseum or PAC parking lot, and cannot find a place to park near the Coliseum or PAC (space is limited due to the construction of a new parking garage there), Charleston County School District is providing a space for overflow parking.

It is located near the corner of Montague Avenue and Dorchester Road; the entrance to the lot will be off of Montague, across the street from Thrifty Car Rental. Signs directing traffic to the site will be located along International Boulevard and Montague Avenue. Volunteer attendants will be on site to direct parking, and multiple shuttles will run on a regular basis (about every 15 minutes) to transport everyone who parks there to the Coliseum, and back to the parking lot when the ceremony is over.

This lot and shuttles will be set up to start at least one hour before each graduation ceremony that would require overflow parking. The shuttles will continue for one hour after each ceremony is complete that would require overflow parking. There will be handicapped accessible transportation.

Prevent Heatstroke Deaths

EIGHT SIMPLE STEPS TO PREVENT HEATSTROKE DEATHS. Never leave a child in a vehicle unattended—even if the windows are partially open or the engine is running, and the air conditioning is on. Make a habit of looking in the vehicle—front and back—before locking the door and walking away. Ask the childcare provider to call if the child doesn’t show up for care as expected. Place your purse or briefcase in the back seat to ensure your child isn't accidentally left in the vehicle. Write a note or place a stuffed animal in the passenger's seat to remind you that a child is in the vehicle. Teach children that a vehicle is not a play area and store keys out of a child's reach. If you see a child alone in a locked car, get them out immediately and call 911. A child in distress due to heat should be removed from the vehicle as quickly as possible and rapidly cooled. Hit and Run

Mount Pleasant, S.C. - On May 1, 2019, at approximately 7:00 a.m., a child was crossing Venning Road near Rans Hill Road on their bicycle when they were struck by a vehicle. The vehicle then left the scene without checking on the child. The child was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Witnesses described the car as a dark sport utility vehicle.
