MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. September 13, 2018) – The Town of Mount Pleasant continues to track 

Hurricane Florence as Mount Pleasant first responders and staff prepare for the storm's impact on the 

community.

“We moved to OPCON 1 this morning and our Emergency Operations Center will be operational until 

further notice,” said Emergency Manager Amanda Knight. “This means that a disaster or emergency 

is in effect and that our emergency response operations are on-going. We are at the highest state of 

emergency operations.”

“Mitigation of the storm is our highest priority and we have implemented or deployed the following 

assets,” added Knight.

• 345 essential personnel assigned to the event.
• 3 self-serving sandbag stations
• 1,500 pre-filled sandbags provided free of charge to residents
• 7,000 bags and 176 tons of sand provided free of charge for residents
• 2 drones pre-checked for damage assessment and/or search and rescue
• 246.7% increase in Facebook/Twitter posts sent
• 622.9% increase in Facebook/Twitter messages received
• 245.6% increase in Facebook/Twitter impressions
• 55 traffic signals pre-checked
• 3 high water response vehicles
• 26 chainsaws, 3 pole saws
• 43 Public Service vehicles
• 6 heavy equipment (loaders/backhoes)
• 13 heavy-duty pumps
• 16 industrial generators
• 40 paramedics
• 5 fire engines
• 3 fire ladders
• 2 fire squads
• 3 battalions
• 2 independent IT back-up systems
• 20 emergency laptops
• 3 schools for staging personnel and equipment
• 1,035 meals prepared and delivered to employees

The path of Hurricane Florence is uncertain, according to NHC forecasters, but the Town of Mount Pleasant remains one community prepared for the storm.
